ㅅ산발랏과 도비야와 아라비아 사람 ㅇ게셈과 그 나머지 우리의 對敵(대적)이 내가 城(성)을 建築(건축)하여 그 頹落(퇴락)한 곳을 남기지 아니하였다 함을 들었는데 ㅈ내가 아직 城門(성문)에 門(문)짝을 달지 못한 때라
When word came to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it--though up to that time I had not set the doors in the gates--

산발랏과 게셈이 내게 보내어 이르기를 오라, 우리가 ㅊ오노 平地(평지) 한 村(촌)에서 서로 만나자 하니 實狀(실상)은 나를 害(해)코자 함이라

Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: "Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono." But they were scheming to harm me;

내가 곧 저희에게 使者(사자)들을 보내어 이르기를 내가 이제 큰 役事(역사)를 하니 내려가지 못하겠노라 어찌하여 役事(역사)를 떠나 停止(정지)하게 하고 너희에게로 내려가겠느냐 하매
so I sent messengers to them with this reply: "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?"

저희가 네 番(번)이나 이같이 내게 보내되 나는 如前(여전)히 對答(대답)하였더니
Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.

산발랏이 다섯 番(번)째는 그 從者(종자)의 손에 封(봉)하지 않은 便紙(편지)를 들려 내게 보내었는데
Then, the fifth time, Sanballat sent his aide to me with the same message, and in his hand was an unsealed letter

그 글에 이르기를 異邦(이방) 中(중)에도 所聞(소문)이 있고 가스무도 말하기를 네가 ㅋ유다 사람들로 더불어 謀叛(모반)하려 하여 城(성)을 建築(건축)한다 하나니 네가 그 말과 같이 王(왕)이 되려 하는도다

in which was written: "It is reported among the nations--and Geshem says it is true--that you and the Jews are plotting to revolt, and therefore you are building the wall. Moreover, according to these reports you are about to become their king

또 네가 先知者(선지자)를 세워 예루살렘에서 너를 들어 宣傳(선전)하기를 유다에 王(왕)이 있다 하게 하였으니 이 말이 王(왕)에게 들릴찌라 그런즉 너는 이제 오라 함께 議論(의논)하자 하였기로
and have even appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem: 'There is a king in Judah!' Now this report will get back to the king; so come, let us confer together."

내가 보내어 저에게 이르기를 너의 말한바 이런 일은 없는 일이요 네 마음에서 지어낸 것이라 하였나니
I sent him this reply: "Nothing like what you are saying is happening; you are just making it up out of your head."

이는 저희가 다 우리를 두렵게 하고자 하여 말하기를 저희 손이 疲困(피곤)하여 役事(역사)를 停止(정지)하고 이루지 못하리라 함이라 이제 내 손을 힘있게 하옵소서 하였노라
They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, "Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed." But I prayed, "Now strengthen my hands."

● 이 後(후)에 므헤다벨의 孫子(손자) 들라야의 아들 스마야가 ㅌ杜門不出(두문불출)하기로 내가 그 집에 가니 저가 이르기를 저희가 너를 죽이러 올 터이니 우리가 하나님의 殿(전)으로 가서 外所(외소) 안에 있고 그 門(문)을 닫자 저희가 必然(필연) 밤에 와서 너를 죽이리라 하기로

One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you--by night they are coming to kill you."

내가 이르기를 나같은 者(자)가 어찌 逃亡(도망)하며 나같은 몸이면 누가 外所(외소)에 들어가서 生命(생명)을 保存(보존)하겠느냐 나는 들어가지 않겠노라 하고
But I said, "Should a man like me run away? Or should one like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!"

깨달은즉 저는 하나님의 보내신 바가 아니라 ㅍ도비야와 산발랏에게 賂物(뇌물)을 받고 내게 이런 豫言(예언)을 함이라
I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

저희가 賂物(뇌물)을 준 까닭은 나를 두렵게 하고 이렇게 함으로 犯罪(범죄)하게 하고 惡(악)한 말을 지어 나를 誹謗(비방)하려 함이었느니라
He had been hired to intimidate me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discredit me.

내 하나님이여 도비야와 산발랏과 ㅎ女先知(여선지) 노아댜와 그 남은 先知者(선지자)들 무릇 나를 두렵게 하고자 한 者(자)의 所爲(소위)를 ㅏ記憶(기억)하옵소서 하였노라
Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, because of what they have done; remember also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who have been trying to intimidate me.

● 城(성) 役事(역사)가 五十二日(오십이일)만에 엘룰月(월) 二十五日(이십오일)에 끝나매
So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.

ㅑ우리 모든 對敵(대적)과 四面(사면) 異邦(이방) 사람들이 이를 듣고 다 두려워하여 스스로 落膽(낙담)하였으니 ㅓ이는 이 役事(역사)를 우리 하나님이 이루신 것을 앎이니라
When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

그 때에 유다의 貴人(귀인)들이 여러 番(번) 도비야에게 便紙(편지)하였고 도비야의 便紙(편지)도 저희에게 이르렀으니
Also, in those days the nobles of Judah were sending many letters to Tobiah, and replies from Tobiah kept coming to them.

도비야는 ㅕ아라의 아들 스가냐의 사위가 되었고 도비야의 아들 여호하난도 베레갸의 아들 ㅗ므술람의 딸을 取(취)하였으므로 유다에서 저와 同盟(동맹)한 者(자)가 많음이라
For many in Judah were under oath to him, since he was son-in-law to Shecaniah son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam son of Berekiah.

저희들이 도비야의 善行(선행)을 내 앞에 말하고 또 나의 말도 저에게 傳(전)하매 도비야가 恒常(항상) 내게 便紙(편지)하여 나를 두렵게 하고자 하였느니라
Moreover, they kept reporting to me his good deeds and then telling him what I said. And Tobiah sent letters to intimidate me.
