David mustered the men who were with him and appointed over them commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them. |

David sent the troops out--a third under the command of Joab, a third under Joab's brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king told the troops, "I myself will surely march out with you." And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also. |

ㅕ百姓(백성)들이 가로되 王(왕)은 나가지 마소서 우리가 逃亡(도망)할찌라도 저희는 우리에게 注意(주의)하지 아니할 터이요 우리가 折半(절반)이나 죽을찌라도 우리에게 注意(주의)하지 아니할 터이라 王(왕)은 우리 萬名(만명)보다 重(중)하시오니 王(왕)은 城(성)에 계시다가 우리를 도우심이 좋으니이다

But the men said, "You must not go out; if we are forced to flee, they won't care about us. Even if half of us die, they won't care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It would be better now for you to give us support from the city." But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city. |

王(왕)이 저희에게 이르되 너희가 善(선)히 여기는대로 내가 行(행)하리라 하고 門(문) 곁에 서매 모든 百姓(백성)이 百名(백명)씩 千名(천명)씩 隊(대)를 지어 나가는지라
The king answered, "I will do whatever seems best to you." So the king stood beside the gate while all the men marched out in units of hundreds and of thousands. And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands. |

王(왕)이 요압과 아비새와 잇대에게 命(명)하여 가로되 나를 爲(위)하여 少年(소년) 압살롬을 너그러이 待接(대접)하라 하니 王(왕)이 압살롬을 爲(위)하여 모든 軍長(군장)에게 命令(명령)할 때에 ㅗ百姓(백성)들이 다 들으니라

The king commanded Joab, Abishai and Ittai, "Be gentle with the young man Absalom for my sake." And all the troops heard the king giving orders concerning Absalom to each of the commanders. And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom. |

● 이에 百姓(백성)이 이스라엘을 치러 들로 나가서 ㅛ에브라임 수풀에서 싸우더니
The army marched into the field to fight Israel, and the battle took place in the forest of Ephraim. So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim; |

거기서 이스라엘 무리가 다윗의 心腹(심복)들에게 敗(패)하매 그날 그곳에서 殺戮(살륙)이 커서 二萬(이만)에 이르렀고
There the army of Israel was defeated by David's men, and the casualties that day were great--twenty thousand men. Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men. |

그 땅에서 四面(사면)으로 퍼져 싸웠으므로 그 날에 수풀에서 죽은 者(자)가 칼에 죽은 者(자)보다 많았더라
The battle spread out over the whole countryside, and the forest claimed more lives that day than the sword. For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured. |

● 압살롬이 다윗의 臣僕(신복)과 마주치니라 압살롬이 노새를 탔는데 그 노새가 큰 상수리나무 蕃盛(번성)한 가지 아래로 지날 때에 ㅜ압살롬의 머리털이 그 상수리나무에 걸리매 저가 空中(공중)에 달리고 그 탔던 노새는 그 아래로 빠져 나간지라

Now Absalom happened to meet David's men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom's head got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going. And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away. |

한 사람이 보고 요압에게 告(고)하여 가로되 내가 보니 압살롬이 상수리나무에 달렸더이다
When one of the men saw this, he told Joab, "I just saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree." And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak. |

요압이 그 告(고)한 사람에게 이르되 네가 보고 어찌하여 當場(당장)에 쳐서 땅에 떨어뜨리지 아니하였느뇨 내가 네게 銀(은) 열箇(개)와 띠 하나를 주었으리라
Joab said to the man who had told him this, "What! You saw him? Why didn't you strike him to the ground right there? Then I would have had to give you ten shekels of silver and a warrior's belt." And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle. |

그 사람이 요압에게 對答(대답)하되 내가 내 손에 銀(은) 千箇(천개)를 받는다 할찌라도 나는 王(왕)의 아들에게 손을 대지 아니하겠나이다 ㅠ우리가 들었거니와 王(왕)이 當身(당신)과 아비새와 잇대에게 命(명)하여 이르시기를 삼가 누구든지 少年(소년) 압살롬을 害(해)하지 말라 하셨나이다

But the man replied, "Even if a thousand shekels were weighed out into my hands, I would not lift my hand against the king's son. In our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, 'Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.' And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom. |

아무 일도 王(왕) 앞에는 숨길 수 없나니 내가 萬一(만일) 拒逆(거역)하여 그 生命(생명)을 害(해)하였다면 當身(당신)도 나를 對敵(대적)하였으리이다
And if I had put my life in jeopardy--and nothing is hidden from the king--you would have kept your distance from me." Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me. |

요압이 가로되 나는 너와 같이 遲滯(지체)할 수 없다 하고 손에 작은 槍(창) 셋을 가지고 가서 상수리나무 가운데서 아직 살아 있는 압살롬의 心臟(심장)을 찌르니
Joab said, "I'm not going to wait like this for you." So he took three javelins in his hand and plunged them into Absalom's heart while Absalom was still alive in the oak tree. Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. |

요압의 兵器(병기)를 맡은 少年(소년) 열이 압살롬을 에워싸고 쳐죽이니라
And ten of Joab's armor-bearers surrounded Absalom, struck him and killed him. And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him. |
16 |
● 요압이 나팔을 불어 百姓(백성)들로 그치게 하니 저희가 이스라엘을 따르지 아니하고 돌아오니라
Then Joab sounded the trumpet, and the troops stopped pursuing Israel, for Joab halted them. And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people. |

무리가 압살롬을 옮겨다가 수풀 가운데 큰 구멍에 던지고 그 위에 으甚(심)히 큰 돌무더기를 쌓으니라 온 이스라엘 무리가 各其(각기) 이帳幕(장막)으로 逃亡(도망)하니라
They took Absalom, threw him into a big pit in the forest and piled up a large heap of rocks over him. Meanwhile, all the Israelites fled to their homes. And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent. |

압살롬이 살았을 때에 自己(자기)를 爲(위)하여 ㅐ한 碑石(비석)을 가져 세웠으니 이는 저가 ㄱ自己(자기) 이름을 傳(전)할 아들이 없음을 恨歎(한탄)함이라 그러므로 自己(자기) 이름으로 그 碑石(비석)을 이름하였으며 그 碑石(비석)이 ㄴ王(왕)의 골짜기에 있고 이제까지 압살롬의 記念碑(기념비)라 일컫더라
During his lifetime Absalom had taken a pillar and erected it in the King's Valley as a monument to himself, for he thought, "I have no son to carry on the memory of my name." He named the pillar after himself, and it is called Absalom's Monument to this day. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place. |

● 사독의 아들 아히마아스가 가로되 ㄷ請(청)컨대 나로 빨리 王(왕)에게 가서 ㄹ여호와께서 王(왕)의 怨讐(원수) 갚아 주신 消息(소식)을 傳(전)하게 하소서
Now Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, "Let me run and take the news to the king that the LORD has delivered him from the hand of his enemies." Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies. |

요압이 저에게 이르되 너는 오늘 消息(소식)을 傳(전)하는 者(자)가 되지 말고 다른 날에 傳(전)할 것이니라 王(왕)의 아들이 죽었나니 네가 오늘날 消息(소식)을 傳(전)하지 못하리라 하고
You are not the one to take the news today, Joab told him. "You may take the news another time, but you must not do so today, because the king's son is dead." And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead. |

구스 사람에게 이르되 네가 가서 본 것을 王(왕)께 告(고)하라 하매 구스 사람이 요압에게 절하고 달음질하여 가니
Then Joab said to a Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." The Cushite bowed down before Joab and ran off. Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran. |

사독의 아들 아히마아스가 다시 요압에게 이르되 請(청)컨대 아무쪼록 나로 또한 구스 사람의 뒤를 따라 달음질하게 하소서 요압이 가로되 내 아들아 왜 달음질하려 하느냐 이 消息(소식)으로 因(인)하여는 賞(상)을 받지 못하리라 하되
Ahimaaz son of Zadok again said to Joab, "Come what may, please let me run behind the Cushite." But Joab replied, "My son, why do you want to go? You don't have any news that will bring you a reward." Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready? |

저가 아무쪼록 달음질하겠노라 하는지라 요압이 가로되 그리하라 하니 아히마아스가 ㅁ들길로 달음질하여 구스 사람보다 앞서니라

He said, "Come what may, I want to run." So Joab said, "Run!" Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cushite. But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi. |

● 때에 다윗이 ㅂ두 門(문) 사이에 앉았더라 ㅅ把守軍(파수군)이 城門樓(성문루)에 올라가서 눈을 들어 보니 어떤 사람이 홀로 달음질하는지라
While David was sitting between the inner and outer gates, the watchman went up to the roof of the gateway by the wall. As he looked out, he saw a man running alone. And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone. |

把守軍(파수군)이 외쳐 王(왕)께 告(고)하매 王(왕)이 가로되 저가 萬一(만일) 혼자면 그 입에 消息(소식)이 있으리라 할 때에 저가 次次(차차) 가까이 오니라
The watchman called out to the king and reported it. The king said, "If he is alone, he must have good news." And the man came closer and closer. And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near. |

把守軍(파수군)이 본즉 한 사람이 또 달음질하는지라 門(문)지기에게 외쳐 이르되 보라 한사람이 또 혼자 달음질한다 하니 王(왕)이 가로되 저도 消息(소식)을 가져오느니라
Then the watchman saw another man running, and he called down to the gatekeeper, "Look, another man running alone!" The king said, "He must be bringing good news, too." And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings. |

把守軍(파수군)이 가로되 나 보기에는 앞선 사람의 달음질이 ㅇ사독의 아들 아히마아스의 달음질과 같으니이다 王(왕)이 가로되 ㅈ저는 좋은 사람이니 좋은 消息(소식)을 가져 오느니라
The watchman said, "It seems to me that the first one runs like Ahimaaz son of Zadok." "He's a good man," the king said. "He comes with good news." And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings. |

● 아히마아스가 외쳐 王(왕)께 말씀하되 平安(평안)하옵소서 하고 王(왕)의 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절하여 가로되 ㅊ王(왕)의 하나님 여호와를 讚揚(찬양)하리로소이다 그 손을 들어 내 主(주) 王(왕)을 對敵(대적)하는 者(자)들을 붙여 주셨나이다

Then Ahimaaz called out to the king, "All is well!" He bowed down before the king with his face to the ground and said, "Praise be to the LORD your God! He has delivered up the men who lifted their hands against my lord the king." And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king. |

王(왕)이 가로되 ㅋ少年(소년) 압살롬이 잘 있느냐 아히마아스가 對答(대답)하되 요압이 王(왕)의 종 나를 보낼 때에 크게 騷動(소동)하는것을 보았사오나 무슨 일인지 알지 못하였나이다

The king asked, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" Ahimaaz answered, "I saw great confusion just as Joab was about to send the king's servant and me, your servant, but I don't know what it was." And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was. |

王(왕)이 가로되 물러나 곁에 서 있으라 하매 물러나서 섰더라
The king said, "Stand aside and wait here." So he stepped aside and stood there. And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still. |

● 구스 사람이 이르러 告(고)하되 내 主(주) 王(왕)께 報(보)할 消息(소식)이 있나이다 ㅌ여호와께서 오늘날 王(왕)을 對敵(대적)하던 모든 怨讐(원수)를 갚으셨나이다

Then the Cushite arrived and said, "My lord the king, hear the good news! The LORD has delivered you today from all who rose up against you." And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee. |

王(왕)이 구스 사람에게 묻되 少年(소년) 압살롬이 잘 있느냐 구스 사람이 對答(대답)하되 ㅍ내 主(주) 王(왕)의 怨讐(원수)와 일어나서 王(왕)을 對敵(대적)하는 者(자)들은 다 그 少年(소년)과 같이 되기를 願(원)하나이다

The king asked the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" The Cushite replied, "May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man." And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is. |

王(왕)의 마음이 甚(심)히 아파 門樓(문루)로 올라가서 우니라 저가 올라갈 때에 말하기를 ㅎ내 아들, 압살롬아 내 아들, 내 아들, 압살롬아 내가 너를 代身(대신)하여 죽었더면, 압살롬 내 아들아 내 아들아 하였더라

The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you--O Absalom, my son, my son!" And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son! |
