1 우리가 다시 自薦(자천)하기를 始作(시작)하겠느냐 우리가 어찌 어떤 사람처럼 薦擧書(천거서)를 너희에게 부치거나 或(혹) 너희에게 맡거나 할 必要(필요)가 있느냐

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

2 너희가 우리의 便紙(편지)라 우리 마음에 썼고 사람이 알고 읽는 바라

You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.

Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

3 너희는 우리로 말미암아 나타난 그리스도의 便紙(편지)니 이는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 살아 계신 하나님의 靈(영)으로 한 것이며 또 돌碑(비)에 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 肉(육)의 心碑(심비)에 한 것이라

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

4 우리가 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님을 向(향)하여 이같은 確信(확신)이 있으니

Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.

And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

5 우리가 무슨 일이든지 우리에게서 난 것같이 생각하여 스스로 滿足(만족)할 것이 아니니 우리의 滿足(만족)은 오직 하나님께로서 났느니라

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

6 저가 또 우리로 새 言約(언약)의 일군 되기에 滿足(만족)케 하셨으니 儀文(의문)으로 하지 아니하고 오직 靈(영)으로 함이니 儀文(의문)은 죽이는 것이요 靈(영)은 살리는 것임이니라

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

7 돌에 써서 새긴 죽게 하는 儀文(의문)의 職分(직분)도 榮光(영광)이 있어 이스라엘 子孫(자손)들이 모세의 얼굴의 없어질 榮光(영광)을 因(인)하여 그 얼굴을 注目(주목)하지 못하였거든

Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was,

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

8 하물며 靈(영)의 職分(직분)이 더욱 榮光(영광)이 있지 아니하겠느냐

will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?

How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

9 定罪(정죄)의 職分(직분)도 榮光(영광)이 있은즉 義(의)의 職分(직분)은 榮光(영광)이 더욱 넘치리라

If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

10 榮光(영광)되었던 것이 더 큰 榮光(영광)을 因(인)하여 이에 榮光(영광)될 것이 없으나

For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.

For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

11 없어질 것도 榮光(영광)으로 말미암았은즉 길이 있을 것은 더욱 榮光(영광) 가운데 있느니라

And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

12 ● 우리가 이같은 所望(소망)이 있으므로 膽大(담대)히 말하노니

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

13 우리는 모세가 이스라엘 子孫(자손)들로 將次(장차) 없어질 것結局(결국)을 注目(주목)치 못하게 하려고 手巾(수건)을 그 얼굴에 쓴 것같이 아니하노라

We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away.

And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

14 그러나 저희 마음이 頑固(완고)하여 오늘까지라도 舊約(구약)을 읽을 때에 그 手巾(수건)이 오히려 벗어지지 아니하고 있으니 그 手巾(수건)그리스도 안에서 없어질 것이라

But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

15 오늘까지 모세의 글을 읽을 때에 手巾(수건)이 오히려 그 마음을 덮었도다

Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.

But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

16 그러나 언제든지 主(주)께로 돌아가면 그 手巾(수건)이 벗어지리라

But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

17 主(주)는 靈(영)이시니 主(주)의 靈(영)이 계신 곳에는 自由(자유)함이 있느니라

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18 우리가 다 手巾(수건)을 벗은 얼굴로 거울을 보는것 같이 主(주)의 榮光(영광)을 보매 저와 같은 形像(형상)으로 化(화)하여 榮光(영광)으로 榮光(영광)에 이르니 곧 主(주)의 靈(영)으로 말미암음이니라

And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
