When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: |

and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. |

그 ㅈ珍饌(진찬)을 貪(탐)하지 말라 그것은 奸詐(간사)하게 베푼 植物(식물)이니라

Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. |

ㅊ富者(부자) 되기에 애쓰지 말고 ㅋ네 私事(사사)로운 智慧(지혜)를 버릴찌어다
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. |

네가 어찌 虛無(허무)한 것에 注目(주목)하겠느냐 丁寧(정녕)히 ㅌ財物(재물)은 날개를 내어 하늘에 나는 독수리처럼 날아가리라

Do not eat the food of a stingy man, do not crave his delicacies; Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: |

네가 조금 먹은 것도 吐(토)하겠고 네 아름다운 말도 헛된 데로 돌아가리라
You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. |

미련한 者(자)의 귀에 말하지 말지니 이는 그가 네 智慧(지혜)로운 말을 업신여길 것임이니라
Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words. Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. |

ㅓ옛 地界石(지계석)을 옮기지 말며 외로운 子息(자식)의 밭을 侵犯(침범)하지 말찌어다

大抵(대저) 그들의 ㅕ救贖者(구속자)는 强(강)하시니 너를 對敵(대적)하사 ㅗ그 寃(원)을
펴시리라
for their Defender is strong; he will take up their case against you. For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. |

訓戒(훈계)에 着心(착심)하며 知識(지식)의 말씀에 귀를 기울이라
Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. |

ㅛ아이를 訓戒(훈계)하지 아니치 말라 ㅜ채찍으로 그를 때릴찌라도 죽지 아니하리라
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. |

그를 채찍으로 때리면 ㅠ그 靈魂(영혼)을 陰府(음부)에서 救援(구원)하리라

으내 아들아 萬一(만일) 네 마음이 智慧(지혜)로우면 나 곧 내 마음이 즐겁겠고
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad; My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. |

萬一(만일) 네 입술이 이正直(정직)을 말하면 내 ㅐ속이 愉快(유쾌)하리라
my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. |
17 |
네 마음으로 ㄱ罪人(죄인)의 亨通(형통)을 부러워하지 말고 ㄴ恒常(항상) 여호와를 敬畏(경외)하라
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. |

丁寧(정녕)히 네 ㄷ將來(장래)가 있겠고 네 ㄹ所望(소망)이 끊어지지 아니하리라
There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. |
19 |
내 아들아 너는 듣고 ㅁ智慧(지혜)를 얻어 ㅂ네 마음을 正路(정로)로 引導(인도)할찌니라
Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. |

ㅅ술을 즐겨하는 者(자)와 ㅇ고기를 貪(탐)하는 者(자)로 더불어 사귀지 말라
Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: |

술 醉(취)하고 貪食(탐식)하는 者(자)는 가난하여질 것이요 ㅈ잠 자기를 즐겨하는 者(자)는 해어진 옷을 입을 것임이니라

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. |

ㅌ眞理(진리)를 사고서 팔지 말며 智慧(지혜)와 訓戒(훈계)와 明哲(명철)도 그리할찌니라
Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. |

ㅍ義人(의인)의 아비는 크게 즐거울 것이요 智慧(지혜)로운 子息(자식)을 낳은 者(자)는 그를 因(인)하여 즐거울 것이니라
The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. |

大抵(대저) 淫女(음녀)는 ㅏ깊은 구렁이요 ㅑ異邦(이방) 女人(여인)은 좁은 ㅓ陷穽(함정)이라
for a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. |

ㅕ그는 强盜(강도) 같이 埋伏(매복)하며 人間(인간)에 詭詐(궤사)한 者(자)가 많아지게 하느니라
Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful among men. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. |

ㅗ災殃(재앙)이 뉘게 있느뇨 근심이 뉘게 있느뇨 紛爭(분쟁)이 뉘게 있느뇨 怨望(원망)이 뉘게 있느뇨 ㅛ까닭 없는 創傷(창상)이 뉘게 있느뇨 ㅜ붉은 눈이 뉘게 있느뇨
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? |

ㅠ술에 잠긴 者(자)에게 있고 으混合(혼합)한 술을 求(구)하러 다니는 者(자)에게 있느니라
Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. |
31 |
葡萄酒(포도주)는 붉고 盞(잔)에서 번쩍이며 이順(순)하게 내려가나니 너는 그것을 보지도 말찌어다

Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. |

이것이 마침내 ㅐ뱀 같이 물 것이요 ㄱ毒蛇(독사) 같이 쏠 것이며
In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. |

또 네 눈에는 怪異(괴이)한 것이 보일 것이요 네 마음은 ㄴ妄靈(망령)된 것을 發(발)할 것이며

너는 바다 가운데 누운 者(자) 같을 것이요 돛대 위에 누운 者(자) 같을 것이며
You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. |

네가 스스로 말하기를 사람이 ㄷ나를 때려도 나는 아프지 아니하고 나를 傷(상)하게 하여도 내게 感覺(감각)이 없도다 내가 언제나 깰까 ㄹ다시 술을 찾겠다 하리라
They hit me, you will say, "but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?" They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again. |
