1 무릇 智慧(지혜)로운 女人(여인)은 그 집을 세우되 미련한 女人(여인)은 自己(자기) 손으로 그것을 허느니라

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 正直(정직)하게 行(행)하는 者(자)는 여호와를 敬畏(경외)하여도 悖逆(패역)하게 行(행)하는 者(자)는 여호와를 輕蔑(경멸)히 여기느니라

He whose walk is upright fears the LORD, but he whose ways are devious despises him.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 미련한 者(자)는 驕慢(교만)하여 입으로 매를 自請(자청)하고 智慧(지혜)로운 者(자)는 입술로 스스로 保全(보전)하느니라

A fool's talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 소가 없으면 구유는 깨끗하려니와 소의 힘으로 얻는 것이 많으니라

Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox comes an abundant harvest.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 信實(신실)한 證人(증인)은 거짓말을 아니하여도 거짓 證人(증인)은 거짓말을 뱉느니라

A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 倨慢(거만)한 者(자)는 智慧(지혜)를 求(구)하여도 얻지 못하거니와 明哲(명철)한 者(자)는 知識(지식) 얻기가 쉬우니라

The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

7 너는 미련한 者(자)의 1)앞을 떠나라 그 입술에 知識(지식) 있음을 보지 못함이니라
    1) 앞으로 가라 그 입술에 지식 있음을 보지 못하리라

Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 슬기로운 者(자)의 智慧(지혜)는 自己(자기)의 길을 아는 것이라도 미련한 者(자)의 어리석음은 속이는 것이니라

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 미련한 者(자)는 罪(죄)를 尋常(심상)히 여겨도 正直(정직)한 者(자) 中(중)에는 恩惠(은혜)가 있느니라

Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

10 마음의 苦痛(고통)은 自己(자기)가 알고 마음의 즐거움도 他人(타인)이 參與(참여)하지 못하느니라

Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

11 惡(악)한 者(자)의 집은 亡(망)하겠고 正直(정직)한 者(자)의 帳幕(장막)은 興(흥)하리라

The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 어떤 길은 사람의 보기에 바르나 畢竟(필경)은 死亡(사망)의 길이니라

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 웃을 때에도 마음에 슬픔이 있고 즐거움의 끝에도 근심이 있느니라

Even in laughter the heart may ache, and joy may end in grief.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 마음이 悖戾(패려)한 者(자)는 自己(자기) 行爲(행위)로 報應(보응)이 滿足(만족)하겠고 善(선)한 사람도 自己(자기)의 行爲(행위)로 그러하리라

The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good man rewarded for his.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 어리석은 者(자)는 온갖 말을 믿으나 슬기로운 者(자)는 그 行動(행동)을 삼가느니라

A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 智慧(지혜)로운 者(자)는 두려워하여 惡(악)을 떠나나 어리석은 者(자)는 放恣(방자)하여 스스로 믿느니라

A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless.

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 怒(노)하기를 速(속)히 하는 者(자)는 어리석은 일을 行(행)하고 惡(악)한 計巧(계교)를 꾀하는 者(자)는 미움을 받느니라

A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.

He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 어리석은 者(자)는 어리석음으로 基業(기업)을 삼아도 슬기로운 者(자)는 知識(지식)으로 冕旒冠(면류관)을 삼느니라

The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 惡人(악인)은 善人(선인) 앞에 엎드리고 不義者(불의자)는 義人(의인)의 門(문)에 엎드리느니라

Evil men will bow down in the presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 가난한 者(자)는 그 이웃에게도 미움을 받게 되나 富饒(부요)한 者(자)는 親舊(친구)가 많으니라

The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.

The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

21 이웃을 업신여기는 者(자)는 罪(죄)를 犯(범)하는 者(자)요 貧困(빈곤)한 者(자)를 불쌍히 여기는 者(자)는 福(복)이 있는 者(자)니라

He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

22 惡(악)을 圖謀(도모)하는 者(자)는 그릇 가는 것이 아니냐 善(선)을 圖謀(도모)하는 者(자)에게는 仁慈(인자)眞理(진리)가 있으리라

Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 모든 受苦(수고)에는 利益(이익)이 있어도 입술의 말은 窮乏(궁핍)을 이룰 뿐이니라

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 智慧(지혜)로운 者(자)의 財物(재물)은 그의 冕旒冠(면류관)이요 미련한 者(자)의 所有(소유)는 다만 그 미련한 것이니라

The wealth of the wise is their crown, but the folly of fools yields folly.

The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

25 眞實(진실)한 證人(증인)은 사람의 生命(생명)을 救援(구원)하여도 거짓말을 뱉는 사람은 속이느니라

A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

26 여호와를 敬畏(경외)하는 者(자)에게는 堅固(견고)한 依賴(의뢰)가 있나니 그 子女(자녀)들에게 避難處(피난처)가 있으리라

He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 여호와를 敬畏(경외)하는 것은 生命(생명)의 샘이라 死亡(사망)의 그물에서 벗어나게 하느니라

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 百姓(백성)이 많은 것은 王(왕)의 榮光(영광)이요 百姓(백성)이 적은 것은 主權者(주권자)의 敗亡(패망)이니라

A large population is a king's glory, but without subjects a prince is ruined.

In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 怒(노)하기를 더디 하는 者(자)는 크게 明哲(명철)하여도 마음이 躁急(조급)한 者(자)는 어리석음을 나타내느니라

A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly.

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 마음의 和平(화평)은 肉身(육신)의 生命(생명)이나 猜忌(시기)는 뼈의 썩음이니라

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 가난한 사람을 虐待(학대)하는 者(자)는 그를 지으신 이를 蔑視(멸시)하는 者(자)요 窮乏(궁핍)한 사람을 불쌍히 여기는 者(자)는 主(주)를 尊敬(존경)하는 者(자)니라

He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

32 惡人(악인)은 그 患難(환난)에 엎드러져도 義人(의인)은 그 죽음에도 所望(소망)이 있느니라

When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

33 智慧(지혜)明哲(명철)한 者(자)의 마음에 머물거니와 미련한 者(자)의 속에 있는 것은 나타나느니라

Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning and even among fools she lets herself be known.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

34 義(의)는 나라로 榮華(영화)롭게 하고 罪(죄)는 百姓(백성)을 辱(욕)되게 하느니라

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 슬기롭게 行(행)하는 臣下(신하)는 王(왕)의 恩寵(은총)을 입고 辱(욕)을 끼치는 臣下(신하)는 그의 震怒(진노)를 當(당)하느니라

A king delights in a wise servant, but a shameful servant incurs his wrath.

The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
