1 아들들아 아비의 訓戒(훈계)를 들으며 明哲(명철)을 얻기에 注意(주의)하라

Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 내가 善(선)한 道理(도리)를 너희에게 傳(전)하노니 내 法(법)을 떠나지 말라

I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3 나도 내 아버지에게 아들이었었으며 내 어머니 보기에 幼弱(유약)외아들이었었노라

When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother,

For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 아버지가 내게 가르쳐 이르기를 내 말을 네 마음에 두라 내 命令(명령)을 지키라 그리하면 살리라

he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5 智慧(지혜)를 얻으며 明哲(명철)을 얻으라 내 입의 말을 잊지 말며 어기지 말라
잠2:2

Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 智慧(지혜)를 버리지 말라 그가 너를 保護(보호)하리라 그를 사랑하라 그가 너를 지키리라

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 智慧(지혜)第一(제일)이니 智慧(지혜)를 얻으라 무릇 너의 얻은 것을 가져 明哲(명철)을 얻을찌니라

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 그를 높이라 그리하면 그가 너를 높이 들리라 萬一(만일) 그를 품으면 그가 너를 榮華(영화)롭게 하리라

Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 그가 아름다운 冠(관)을 네 머리에 두겠고 榮華(영화)로운 冕旒冠(면류관)을 네게 주리라 하였느니라
잠1:9

She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor."

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 내 아들아 들으라 내 말을 받으라 그리하면 네 生命(생명)의 해가 길리라

Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 내가 智慧(지혜)로운 길로 네게 가르쳤으며 正直(정직)한 捷徑(첩경)으로 너를 引導(인도)하였은즉

I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 다닐 때에 네 걸음이 困難(곤난)하지 아니하겠고 달려갈 때에 失足(실족)하지 아니하리라

When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 訓戒(훈계)를 굳게 잡아 놓치지 말고 지키라 이것이 네 生命(생명)이니라

Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14 邪慝(사특)한 者(자)의 捷徑(첩경)에 들어가지 말며 惡人(악인)의 길로 다니지 말찌어다

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 그 길을 避(피)하고 지나가지 말며 돌이켜 떠나갈찌어다

Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 그들은 惡(악)을 行(행)하지 못하면 자지 못하며 사람을 넘어뜨리지 못하면 잠이 오지 아니하며

For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 不義(불의)의 떡을 먹으며 强暴(강포)의 술을 마심이니라
암2:8

They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 義人(의인)의 길은 돋는 햇볕 같아서 漸漸(점점) 빛나서 圓滿(원만)한 光明(광명)에 이르거니와

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 惡人(악인)의 길은 어둠 같아서 그가 거쳐 넘어져도 그것이 무엇인지 깨닫지 못하느니라

But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20 내 아들아 내 말에 注意(주의)하며 나의 이르는 것에 네 귀를 기울이라

My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 그것을 네 눈에서 떠나게 말며 네 마음 속에 지키라

Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 그것은 얻는 者(자)에게 生命(생명)이 되며 그 온 肉體(육체)의 健康(건강)이 됨이니라

for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 무릇 지킬만한 것보다 더욱 네 마음을 지키라 生命(생명)의 根源(근원)이 이에서 남이니라

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 詭譎(궤휼)을 네 입에서 버리며 邪曲(사곡)을 네 입술에서 멀리하라

Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 네 눈은 바로 보며 네 눈꺼풀은 네 앞을 곧게 살펴

Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 네 발의 行(행)할 捷徑(첩경)1)平坦(평탄)케 하며 네 모든 길을 든든히 하라

Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 右便(우편)으로나 左便(좌편)으로나 치우치지 말고 네 발을 惡(악)에서 떠나게 하라

Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
