1 때에 여호와께서 暴風(폭풍) 가운데로서 욥에게 말씀하여 가라사대

Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said:

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

2 無知(무지)한 말로 理致(이치)를 어둡게 하는 者(자)가 누구냐

Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge?

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

3 너는 大丈夫(대장부)처럼 허리를 묶고 내가 네게 묻는 것을 對答(대답)할찌니라

Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.

Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4 내가 땅의 基礎(기초)를 놓을 때에 네가 어디 있었느냐 네가 깨달아 알았거든 말할찌니라

Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

5 누가 그 度量(도량)을 定(정)하였었는지, 누가 그 準繩(준승)을 그 위에 띄웠었는지 네가 아느냐

Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

6 柱礎(주초)는 무엇 위에 세웠으며 그 모퉁이 돌은 누가 놓았었느냐

On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone--

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7 그 때에 새벽 별들이 함께 노래하며 하나님의 아들들이 다 기쁘게 소리하였었느니라

while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 ● 바닷물이 胎(태)에서 나옴 같이 넘쳐 흐를 때에 門(문)으로 그것을 막은 者(자)가 누구냐

Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,

Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9 그 때에 내가 구름으로 그 衣服(의복)을 만들고 黑暗(흑암)으로 그 襁褓(강보)를 만들고

when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness,

When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 界限(계한)을 定(정)하여 門(문)과 빗장을 베풀고

when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,

And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11 이르기를 네가 여기까지 오고 넘어가지 못하리니 네 驕慢(교만)한 물결이 여기 그칠찌니라 하였었노라

when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt'?

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

12 네가 나던 날부터 아침을 命(명)하였었느냐 새벽으로 그 處所(처소)를 알게 하여

Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place,

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

13 그것으로 땅끝에 비취게 하고 惡人(악인)을 그 가운데서 驅逐(구축)한 일이 있었느냐

that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

14 땅이 變化(변화)하여 진흙에 印(인)친 것 같고 萬物(만물)이 옷 같이 나타나되

The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment.

It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

15 惡人(악인)에게는 그 빛이 禁(금)한바 되고 그들의 높이 든 팔이 꺽이느니라

The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken.

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

16 ● 네가 바다 根源(근원)에 들어갔었느냐 깊은 물밑으로 걸어 다녔었느냐

Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

17 死亡(사망)의 門(문)이 네게 나타났었느냐 死亡(사망)의 그늘진 門(문)을 네가 보았었느냐

Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

18 땅의 넓이를 네가 測量(측량)하였었느냐 다 알거든 말할찌니라

Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.

Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

19 ● 光明(광명)의 處所(처소)는 어느 길로 가며 黑暗(흑암)의 處所(처소)는 어디냐

What is the way to the abode of light? And where does darkness reside?

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

20 네가 能(능)히 그 地境(지경)으로 引導(인도)할 수 있느냐 그 집의 길을 아느냐

Can you take them to their places? Do you know the paths to their dwellings?

That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

21 네가 아마 알리라 네가 그 때에 났었나니 너의 年數(년수)가 많음이니라

Surely you know, for you were already born! You have lived so many years!

Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

22 네가 눈 곳간에 들어갔었느냐 雨雹(우박) 倉庫(창고)를 보았느냐

Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail,

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

23 내가 患難(환난) 때와 戰爭(전쟁)과 格鬪(격투)의 날을 爲(위)하여 이것을 貯蓄(저축)하였노라

which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle?

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

24 光明(광명)이 어느 길로 말미암아 뻗치며 東風(동풍)이 어느 길로 말미암아 땅에 흩어지느냐

What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed, or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

25 ● 누가 暴雨(폭우)를 爲(위)하여 길을 내었으며 雨雷(우뢰)의 번개 길을 내었으며

Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm,

Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

26 사람 없는 땅에, 사람 없는 曠野(광야)에 비를 내리고

to water a land where no man lives, a desert with no one in it,

To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

27 荒蕪(황무)하고 空虛(공허)한 土地(토지)를 축축하게 하고 軟(연)한 풀이 나게 하였느냐

to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass?

To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

28 비가 아비가 있느냐 이슬 방울은 누가 낳았느냐

Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

29 얼음은 뉘 胎(태)에서 났느냐 空中(공중)의 서리는 누가 낳았느냐

From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens

Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

30 물이 돌 같이 굳어지고 海面(해면)이 어느니라

when the waters become hard as stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen?

The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

31 ● 네가 昴星(묘성)을 매어 떨기 되게 하겠느냐 參星(삼성)의 띠를 풀겠느냐

Can you bind the beautiful Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion?

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

32 네가 열두 宮星(궁성)을 때를 따라 이끌어 내겠느냐 北斗星(북두성)과 그 屬(속)한 별들을 引導(인도)하겠느냐

Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs?

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

33 네가 하늘의 法度(법도)를 아느냐 하늘로 그 權能(권능)을 땅에 베풀게 하겠느냐

Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God's dominion over the earth?

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

34 ● 네 소리를 구름에 올려 큰 물로 네게 덮이게 하겠느냐

Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water?

Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

35 네가 번개를 보내어 가게 하되 그것으로 네게 우리가 여기 있나이다 하게 하겠느냐

Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, 'Here we are'?

Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

36 가슴 속의 智慧(지혜)는 누가 준 것이냐 마음 속의 聰明(총명)은 누가 준 것이냐

Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind?

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

37 누가 智慧(지혜)로 구름을 計數(계수)하겠느냐 누가 하늘의 병을 쏟아

Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens

Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

38 티끌로 진흙을 이루며 흙덩이로 서로 붙게 하겠느냐

when the dust becomes hard and the clods of earth stick together?

When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

39 ● 네가 암獅子(사자)를 爲(위)하여 植物(식물)을 사냥하겠느냐 젊은 獅子(사자)의 食糧(식량)을 채우겠느냐

Do you hunt the prey for the lioness and satisfy the hunger of the lions

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

40 그것들이 窟(굴)에 엎드리며 森林(삼림)에 누워서 기다리는 때에니라

when they crouch in their dens or lie in wait in a thicket?

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

41 까마귀 새끼가 하나님을 向(향)하여 부르짖으며 먹을 것이 없어서 오락가락 할 때에 그것을 爲(위)하여 먹을 것을 豫備(예비)하는 者(자)가 누구냐

Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
